In May, premiums for the car sector remained stable, while there was a new all-time low for motorcycles. The collapse in prices favored the over 45s, who benefited, compared to May 2020, from a much higher percentage of reduction in RC Auto than the younger ones.

Motorists and motorcyclists continue to take advantage of, particularly advantageous policy prices to insure their vehicles.

In particular, the gross TPL premium recorded in the Motor sector in May 2021 was € 359.9, in line with the previous month (-0.1%), thus remaining at an all-time low. Compared to May 2020, there is a decrease of 11.3%.

For the motorcycle sector, on the other hand, the gross TPL premium does not stop its fall, and in May 2021, with 219.3 euros, it marks a new all-time low, down by 5% compared to the previous month and by 24.1% compared to May. 2020.

That's is the photograph that emerges from the Automobile and Motorcycle Insurance Observatory of June 2021 elaborated.

In a market context characterized by a continuous decline in Motor TPL premiums, never recorded before, there are some categories of less advantaged consumers who have seen their premiums fall less significantly. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the younger age groups.

Compared to a total decrease in Motor TPL from May 2020 to May 2021 of 11.3%, the under 25 brackets recorded a more contained reduction over the same period, equal to -7.4%. The two age groups, 25-34 and 35-44, are below the national average with -10%. On the other hand, the 45 to 59 and over 60 age groups benefit from a more marked drop in prices, with a -13.3% and -14% respectively compared to May 2020.

The performance of premiums by age group is summarized in the table below.

An instance of how many it takes to ensure a car or a motorcycle

Insurance Noon compares the cheapest and most comprehensive car insurance and motorcycle insurance on the insurance market.

For cars, we assume the stipulation of a contract for a Peugeot 3008 BlueHDi 130 S&S EAT8 Active, registered in 2020, owned by a generic 38-year-old insured from Milan (employed, married, the first class of merit, no accident in the last 5 years, average distance of 15,000 kilometers per year).

The convenience passes from the Linear estimate, which as of June 10 proposes an expense of 199.71 euros for the 12 months of the contract. The policy applies an expert driving formula, which allows the use of the car to all licensed drivers over 26 years of age (and who have obtained the license for more than three years). However, if a driver of an unauthorized age is driving at the time of the accident, Linear will apply a compensation of up to 3,000 euros.

The same insured who wants to take out a policy for a motorcycle,  Benelli Leoncino 500 (registered in 2019 and with an annual mileage of 7,500 kilometers), will be able to take advantage of the lower price of the Verti quote, which charges 156.04 euros.

In addition, the company offers a contract with an expert driving formula, allowing two-wheelers to be driven by all motorcyclists over 23 years of age. One of the advantages provided by Verti is the waiver of exercising the right of recourse.
