The process Intracytoplasmic sperm injection comprises of one minute needle, known as micropipette. Through which an individual sperm is taken to inject it at the very center point of the egg. Now, the fertilization process is taken place in the laboratory through In-Vitro Fertilization technique or Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technique for a span of 1 to 5 days and then it is implanted to the woman’s uterus.

Infertility has been a very troublesome issue for couples who have tries all methods to get pregnant but all in vain. The sperm from the male counterpart has to get attached to the egg of the female partner, to get it fertilized. This happens only if the head of the sperm is attached to the outer region of the egg. Infertility causes disruption in this very process. There are various IVF Treatments now available under specialized IVF Doctors who have solution to the infertility issues. North Bengal region has witnessed various such IVF and ICSI delivery cases and gained back their family happiness.

In infertility cases this sperm cannot reach or penetrate the egg due to various reasons. The egg’s thick outer layer preventing the sperm penetration. The inability of the sperm to swim and reach up to the egg. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection, in done to treat these infertility issues. The treatment aims to the cytoplasm of the egg, where an individual sperm is injected directly.

How this ‘One sperm’ Insertion works?

Fertilization process IVF Treatments carried by experienced doctors is very mandate. Traditional In-Vitro Fertilization has over 50,000 sperm which tends to swim towards the egg. This process of fertilization takes place in a laboratory dish where the sperm inserts in the cytoplasm of the egg.

But in the IVF Process, Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) a single sperm in inserted by injecting it with a minute needle known as micropipette, to the center point of the egg. The fertilization of the egg occurs in the laboratory for about 1 to 5 span of days. Then it gets implanted to the uterine wall of the woman.

Why would I need ICSI?

ICSI helps to overcome fertility problems, such as:

·        The male counterpart who has less sperm count due to certain health condition. The IVF Treatments such as artificial insemination or intrauterine insemination or in vitro fertilization might get void. For them ICSI is taken in count;

·        The movement of the sperm might not be in the systematic way;

·        There might be issues about the sperm getting attached to the wall of the egg;

·        There might be blockages in the tracts of male reproductive parts. Preventing the sperm from ejecting out.

·        There might be some issues in the egg to get fertilize, despite the  sperm being in good condition

·        Matured eggs through In-Vitro are being used.

·        Eggs which were frozen for a long span is being used.

The Success rate of ICSI:

The success rate is about 50% to 80% in this Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection process. Certain challenges do comprise this treatment such as:

There might be few or more damaged eggs; Even after the fertilization process with the sperm, the egg might fail to develop into an embryo; There must be disruption in growth of the embryo.

To ensure the rate of efficiency and precaution all measures are taken to assess the male counterpart who are partly fertile. The Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection is one of the minute procedures which need to be done. This process is done in the region of North Bengal covering Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, Maldah, Raiganj, Kishanganj by the fertility expert doctor.

As the fertilization process is over implantation of the embryo takes place there have been cases of single birth, and even twins and triplets with the process of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). Keeping in mind various risk on the child’s health the process is done with utmost care and medical guidance.
