Luminous flowers are a type of flower that emit a natural glow or light. These flowers are also known as bioluminescent flowers and are a rare phenomenon found in nature. The light emitted by these flowers is usually blue, green or white and is caused by a chemical reaction between a pigment called luciferin and an enzyme called luciferase.

Bioluminescent flowers are found in several plant families, including the nightshade family (Solanaceae), the borage family (Boraginaceae), and the coffee family (Rubiaceae). The most well-known example of a luminous flower is the Night-blooming cereus (Epiphyllum oxypetalum), which is a type of cactus that blooms at night and emits a bright, white light.

Other examples of luminous flowers include the Glow-in-the-dark mushroom (Mycena chlorophos), the Sea daffodil (Pancratium maritimum), and the Firefly bush (Buddleja davidii). These flowers are typically found in tropical and subtropical regions and are often associated with dark, forested areas or oceanic environments.

Luminous flowers are not only visually stunning but also serve important ecological functions. For example, they can attract pollinators such as moths and beetles, which are attracted to the light emitted by the flowers. They also play a role in seed dispersal, as the light emitted by the flowers can attract animals to disperse their seeds.
