The Amarnath Yatra 2026 opened on July 3rd and over 2.27 lakh pilgrims have already had darshan by mid-July — a 28% rise compared to last year. The season runs until August 28th, concluding on Raksha Bandhan.

Registration Is Mandatory

Every pilgrim needs a Yatra Permit in their own name. In 2026, unregistered pilgrims are being stopped at checkpoints before reaching base camp. You need a Compulsory Health Certificate from an SASB-approved doctor dated on or after 8th April 2026, your Aadhaar card, and Rs. 150 as the permit fee. Register at jksasb.nic.in before you travel. Travel only on your registered date — arriving early does not allow early movement on the route.

Pahalgam or Baltal?

Baltal is 14 km one way but steep almost throughout. Pahalgam is 36 to 48 km over 3 to 5 days — gentler gradient, more medical camps, better for families and first-timers. Many experienced pilgrims go up via Pahalgam and return via Baltal.
